Good morning, Dearly Beloved of God,
Psalms 42:1-2 NLT
[1] As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. [2] I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
Have you ever been really thirsty? Not just having a dry mouth, but I mean "parched". It's like every part of you is craving one thing: WATER 💦. You don’t want a snack. You don’t want a nap. You don’t even want comfort. All you can think about is a cold drink that will refresh you and bring life back to your body.
That’s the picture the psalmist paints for us. Just as a deer 🦌 searches desperately for a stream in the wilderness, he says, “That’s how my soul longs for God.”
Notice something powerful here:
He doesn't say, "I long for God's blessings."
He doesn't say, "I long for an answer to prayer."
He says, “I thirst for God… the living God.”
This is more than wanting something from God. This is about wanting God Himself.
There’s a difference between seeking God’s hand and seeking His face. When we’re thirsty for His hand, we’re after what He can give us like a breakthrough, provision, or favor. But when we’re thirsty for His face, we want His presence, His nearness, His heart. We want Him—nothing more, and nothing less.
Thirst is a soul-deep ache that can’t be filled with entertainment, success, relationships, or even religious stuff. Thirst is what happens when your spirit recognizes that nothing in this world will do. Only God can satisfy.
And here’s the beautiful thing: God is not far off. He is not playing hide and seek with you. He wants to be found. He wants to meet you at the point of your longing. But He waits for you to come, not with a shopping list of needs, but with a heart that says, “God, if all I get today is You… that is more than enough.” this is not about salvation, this is about building and edifying your relationship with God, solely through God as the only source and resource.
Friends, let that sink in‼️
