Good morning, Friends,
Proverbs 18:2 -A fool does not delight in discernment, but only in revealing his own heart.
This verse hits home because it exposes something we all struggle with..."wanting to be heard" more than we "want to listen". Solomon is saying that a fool isn't interested in understanding truth; he's only interested in expressing his own opinions. He doesn’t care what’s right, he focuses on just what he feels.
This right here reminds us of our human nature toward pride and self-centeredness. Our fallen hearts are more ready to talk than to be shaped by wisdom. But the gospel flips this. Christ not only redeems us from sin, He gives us new hearts that long to understand His Word and walk in truth. That means we actually grow by listening, by humbling ourselves under God’s authority.
Am I more prepared and ready to speak my mind, or to seek God's wisdom? Are you teachable, or just talkative?
By God’s grace, we don’t have to live like fools. The Holy Spirit grows in us a hunger for discernment. As we spend time in the Word and in prayer, we become quicker to listen, slower to speak, and more rooted in truth.
Let's seek the Lord that he may give us a humble my heart. Lord make us more ready to understand Your truth than to promote our own thoughts. Teach us to delight in discernment, and give us wisdom that leads to life.
Two ears = listen more
One mouth = talk less bro
