Good Morning, Friends,
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 -[6] Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. [7] You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” [8] And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
Paul is talking to the Corinthian church about a collection being taken to help poor believers in Jerusalem. This is important because Paul is not giving a command tied to salvation. He isn’t saying, “Give so God will accept you.” Giving is not a way to earn God’s favor, it is the result of already having God's favor.
God isn't interested in forced giving. He isn’t interested in gifts that come from guilt, pressure, fear, or obligation. God looks beyond the amount that’s given and focuses on the heart behind it. In other words, why you give matters more to God than how much you give. Real generosity isn’t produced by pressure, it flows naturally from a willing heart.
During Christmas time, we usually hear that it’s “the season of giving,” but for Christians, giving isn’t seasonal. Giving is a way of life. Our new birth in Christ was itself a gift. Salvation wasn’t earned, bought, or deserved, it was freely given by God through Jesus. When God changes a heart, generosity follows. We don’t give to become different; we give because we already are different.
God isn’t after your money, giving is a heart issue. If your heart isn't in it, keep it. What He truly wants is your trust. And when grace reshapes the heart, generosity stops feeling like a burden and becomes an act of worship.
Friends, bottom line, Christian giving is about gratitude. Don’t give because you have to. Give because God has already given us everything in Christ, cheerfully!
