Good morning, Friends,
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 (NLT) - [4]When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. [5] It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it.
Friends, don't forget that God takes our words seriously. It’s better not to make a promise at all than to say something to God and not follow through. Keeping it π―, many of us have been there, we’ve told God in emotional moments, “If You fix this, I’ll change… I’ll do better… I’ll give more… I’ll serve more.” But once the situation improves, our urgency fades away quick, and those promises get pushed to the side.
These verses calls us to slow down and examine our hearts. God isn’t impressed by big, passionate words spoken in the heat of the moment. He values truth, consistency, and integrity. He doesn't only listen to what we say, but watches how we live afterward. Our words to God should never be casual or careless, they should be sincere, thoughtful, and rooted in a genuine desire to obey.
Check it out tho, this is also a warning against treating God like a deal-maker. We don’t bargain with Him as if obedience is something we offer only when we need something in return. From a deeper perspective, God has already given us more than we deserve. Our obedience should flow from gratitude, not negotiation.
At the same time, there is encouragement here. God is not asking for perfect performance, He’s asking for faithfulness. A quiet π€«, steady life of keeping your word, honoring your commitments, and walking in obedience matters more than being all dramatic and impulsively making emotionally promises that never turn into action. Small, consistent faithfulness is powerful in God’s eyes.
Let's be real with ourselves: Do our words to God reflect a heart that truly intends to follow Him, or just emotions in the moment?
But yo, the bottom line is that God isn’t looking for deal-makers, so say what you mean and live what you believe, PERIOD! π
