Devotional Reading - March 16, 2026

Good morning, Friends, 

Matthew 6:24 - No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Jesus speaks with simple clarity here. He does not say it is difficult to serve two masters, nope, He says it is impossible. Our hearts were created to be fully devoted to one Lord. When we try to divide our loyalty between God and something else like, money, success, comfort, reputation, or control, something will eventually take the top spot.

Truth be told, many of us try to balance both. We want to follow God, but we also want security, recognition, and the things the world promises will make life easier. The danger is subtle. Wealth itself is not the problem, but our heart’s attachment to wealth is the problem. When money, status, or material things start determining our decisions, our priorities, and our peace of mind, they quietly move into the place where only God belongs. Jesus exposes this inner conflict because divided loyalty always leads to spiritual frustration.

This verse forces us to ask a hard question: Who is really in charge of my life? You can often tell by what worries you the most or what excites you the most. If losing money shakes us more than drifting from God, something is out of order. If our schedules, energy, and thoughts revolve more around building our own kingdom than pursuing God’s kingdom, then another master may already be sitting on the throne of our hearts.

Check it out,  this passage is not only a warning, it is also an invitation, a reality check to pour some sense into us. Jesus calls us to the freedom of single devotion. When God is truly our Master, life becomes clearer. Our identity is not tied to our bank account, our value is not measured by possessions, and our peace is not controlled by circumstances. Serving God brings a stability that wealth can never give, because God never fails, never disappears, and never stops caring for His people.

Friends, take a moment to ask the Lord to search your heart. If something has begun competing with Him, bring it before Him honestly. Surrender it again. The good news is that when God is our Master, we are not treated like slaves, we are cared for like children. And a life centered on Him will always be richer than anything the world can offer, BELIEVE THAT!
