Boundaries: What are they and how to create them | Wellness Center | University of Illinois Chicago

Good morning, Friends,

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." - Proverbs 4:23

Healthy boundaries are good. Healthy boundaries are safe. Healthy boundaries are critical. And healthy boundaries are BIBLICAL!

We live in a world where everybody wants a piece of us. Our jobs demand our time, our families need our attention, our phones constantly ringing, notifications keep chiming, and life keeps pulling us in a hundred different directions.

And if we're not careful, we'll become so busy responding to everybody else's demands that we neglect spending time with the One who gives us strength to handle them, ya heard!

Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts because everything we do flows from them. That means we must be intentional about what we allow to occupy our hearts and minds.

Yo, you can't keep feeding your mind with the noise of the world and expect your heart to remain spiritually healthy! Sometimes you have to turn off the phone, step away from the drama, shut down social media, and tell somebody, "I'll holla at you later bro."

Not because you don't love people, but because YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD MUST TAKE PRIORITY OVER THE DEMANDS OF PEOPLE!

Romans 12:2 reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. But how can our minds be renewed if we never make room for God's Word, prayer, and communion with Him?

Even Jesus ducked off from the crowds to spend time in prayer (Luke 5:16). If Jesus intentionally made time to commune with the Father, how much more should we?

We give everybody and everything else our best, and leave what's left to God! Shame, bro!

Let's flip the script: set boundaries around your time. Protect your moments of prayer. Make room to meditate on His Word. Give yourself permission to disconnect from the world so you can reconnect with God.

Friends, a mind constantly occupied by the world will "always" struggle to focus on the ghings of God. Aint no room for kingdom building. So stick a pin in this right 'chea: boundaries aren't just about keeping certain things out; they're about making room for what matters most!

You know what time ⏰ it is!!!

Devotional Reading - December 16, 2025

12/16/25 Good morning, Friends,  Acts 4:12 - [12] And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. BOLDNESS! In the chapter before this, Peter heals a man who had been disabled his whole life. The crowd is amazed. Everyone’s staring at Peter and John like they’re the heroes. But Peter shuts all that down immediately. He tells them straight up: “This wasn’t us. This was God working through Jesus Christ.” Peter refuses the spotlight and points all the credit where it belongs. That’s the same bold truth behind this verse, Jesus Christ alone saves. No exceptions. No substitutes. No backup plans. Peter is standing in front of religious leaders who believed they were right with God because of rules, traditions, and family history. And Peter doesn’t sugarcoat it. He tells them clearly: none of that saves you. Not religion. Not good behavior. Not being sincere. Not choosing another spiritual lane. Only J...

Devotional Reading - January 1, 2026

01/01/26 Happy new year and O' happy day! Good morning, Friends,  Luke 17:5 - And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith! In this passage Jesus was teaching His disciples about forgiveness, not the easy kind, but the kind that keeps forgiving even when it’s hard, frustrating, and painful. He was calling them to be patient and long-suffering with people who mess up again and again. The disciples realized real quick that they didn't have enough faith to carry this out on their own. They could've complained, threw a tantrum, got an attitude with Jesus, but the radical part about it is they didn't act fake or make excuses. They went straight to Jesus and said, “Increase our faith.” That’s a powerful moment right there! The disciples understood that following Jesus isn’t just about trying harder. Sometimes it’s about admitting, “Lord, I don’t have what this requires.” They saw a spiritual gap in themselves and knew only Jesus could fill it. Check it out, incr...

Daily Devotional - December 5, 2025

12/5/25 Good morning, Friends,  Hebrews 11:13-16 -13 [13] All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. [14] Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. [15] If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. [16] But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. These verses talk about people in the Bible who trusted God but never got to see all His promises come true while they were alive. Abraham didn’t see the whole nation God promised. Moses never stepped foot in the Promised Land. They believed, even when they didn’t get the results they hoped for. That’s real faith, trusting God not because life works out, but be...
